Throughout the month of July, a number of Mercy Schools held their annual summer school for existing and newly registered students. Each summer school offered a wide array of activities, ensuring that students’ experiences were both enriching and fun. Students strengthened their academic skills through programmes like Jessie Ripoll Primary’s information technology classes and PEP Practice sessions (which helped students to prepare to take the national Primary Exit Profile exams), along with Alpha Primary School’s (APS) individualized reading programme. Both of these primary schools also engaged students in the visual and performing arts through music, dance, arts & crafts, speech and drama. Convent of Mercy Academy, Alpha (i.e. Alpha Academy), even had a Tie & Dye day on which the young ladies designed colourful tie & dye shirts.

To ensure that the children got enough physical exercise and time outdoors, sports were played (e.g. football at Alpha Primary), and field trips were taken to places like a local mineral spa, the zoo and the cinema. As a bonus, and in keeping with the Sisters of Mercy’s Critical Concern for the Earth, Jessie Ripoll staged an eco-friendly fashion show in which students wore extravagant outfits created from recycled materials.

Students had a wonderful time at this year’s summer school activities. New friendships were made, skills developed and memories created thanks to the efforts of our Mercy staff members who planned all the activities of each summer school programme.
