Over the few months, Mercy schools have continued to make huge strides in world of sports. Alpha Academy’s athletes have grown their reputations both locally and internationally, while Mt. St. Joseph (MSJ) Prep’s own track and gymnastics teams have cemented their positions among the top prep school teams in Jamaica.
MSJ Prep Track & Field
From June 11-13, 2026 over 40 preparatory schools from across Jamaica competed in the annual Jamaica Independent Schools Association (JISA) Prep Schools Track and Field Championship. During the competition, Mt. St. Joseph Prep School’s Khariah Peart won gold in the Girls’ Class Two 100m while gold medals were also earned by MSJ’s Adriannah Bailey in the Girls’ Class One 300m and the Girls’ Class One 60m hurdles. Following the success of last year’s JISA Champs, MSJ Prep maintained its spot among the top 10 schools by ranking fourth overall. Being located in Manchester, MSJ was also awarded the title of the top rural school in the competition.
MSJ Prep Gymnastics
On June 20, 2026, Mt. St. Joseph Prep School’s gymnastics teams placed third at the Kool Kidz Invitational. MSJ was represented by 8 gymnasts who showed off their skills in the bars, floors and vault events. Another memorable achievement for MSJ Prep!
Alpha Academy Track & Field
Following their impressive performance at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships (Champs) in March, the Convent of Mercy Academy, Alpha’s track team also stood out at the 2026 Penn Relay International Championship in Philadelphia where they won gold and silver medals for the 4x400m and 4x100m respectively. Beyond the Penn Relays in April, one of the school’s rising star athletes, Azaria Harris, went on to shine at the JAAA National Junior and Senior Championships later in June, where she secured the gold medal in the Under-18 Girls’ 200m race. The school’s success at these two meets have followed a series of outstanding performances this track season.
