Alpha Institute honoured at the RJR / GLEANER awards

On May 28, the Alpha Institute was presented with the RJR/Gleaner Honour Award for Education. The prestigious RJR/Gleaner Honour Awards highlights individuals and organisations which have contributed greatly to Jamaica in the areas of Arts and Culture, Business, Education, Entertainment, Health and Wellness, Public Service, Science and Technology, Sport, and Voluntary Service.

The award recognized Alpha for its “continued transformation of vulnerable youth through holistic education, vocational mastery, and bold innovation – including Jamaica’s first Associate Degree in Music Performance and Music Technology, now with global reach.”

Ms. Marcia Tai Chun (Chief Executive Officer, Sisters of Mercy of Jamaica), accepted the award on behalf of the school as her colleagues, Gay Magnus (Director of Music, Alpha School of Music) and Mr. D’Wayne Graham (Administrator, Alpha Vocational Training Centre) looked on with pride from the audience. The awards ceremony was later broadcast on a major national television station – thus spreading the word of Alpha’s achievements among a wide audience.
