Alpha Academy’s Leadership Training Programme

Since 2024, Alpha Academy’s students have participated in the NexGen Leadership Academy Training Programme (an initiative facilitated by Dr. Michelle McLean and Rev. Dr. Andrew Bawa). Now in its second year, the partnership supports the school’s commitment to developing resilient, service-oriented student leaders.

Graduates of the NexGen Leadership Academy Training Programme

A set of 58 Alpha Academy students recently completed the programme on April 19, 2026 after three months of targeted leadership training. This involved students being engaged in interactive workshops, group coaching, mentorship sessions, and practical leadership activities. Students developed key skills in emotional intelligence, communication, resilience, teamwork, time management, public speaking, and values-based leadership.

Several participants received special awards, while Mrs. Nicole Palmer-Hunter, Alpha’s Guidance Counsellor, was honoured with the “Above and Beyond Leadership” award for her outstanding support of and work with students. The training significantly enhanced students’ personal growth, leadership capacity, and readiness to serve within and beyond the school community. Going forward, the school would like for the programme to be sustained and even expanded to benefit a wider cross-section of students. Programmes such as these align with the school’s overall aim to promote Principled Leadership among students as part of the Mercy Core Values.
