A Season of Excellence: Mercy Schools Celebrate Outstanding Achievements

Noelle Noble representing APS in Puerto Rico.

Alpha Primary School’s (APS) 5th grade Chess Champion, Noelle Noble, is making a name for herself on the international stage as was evidenced over the Christmas break by her coming 3rd place in the Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Youth Chess Tournament 2025. Held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, this is her second overseas tournament and she competed in the Under-10 Female Blitz category. This remarkable achievement truly reflects her dedication, discipline, and strategic ability.

Back on local shores, Noelle claimed victory in the National Primary School Chess Championship held in Kingston, Jamaica on January 29, 2026. Noelle placed first place in the under 12 girls category, as well as first place overall in the competition. Not only did she give an outstanding performance that day, but so did several other members of Alpha Primary’s chess team. The talented team made the school proud by securing 1st place for under 8 girls, 3rd place for under 10 girls, 4th place for under 12 girls, and 5th place for under 12 boys. With their clear show of skill, strategy and determination, APS’ team secured FIRST place overall! However, Alpha Primary was not the only Mercy School represented at this tournament. Jessie Ripoll Primary had the honour of placing 2nd place overall in the competition!

The recent accomplishments for Mercy schools have continued beyond the realm of chess. This year, Alpha Primary’s football and netball teams celebrated second- and third-place finishes in the 2026 Kingston InSport competition. Additionally, Alpha Academy’s Track and Field team made a strong performance at January’s McKenely/Wint Track Meet where the young ladies showed dominance in events like shotput, hurdles, and the sprints. They were also awarded 3rd place at the 2026 Corporate Area Championships and 7th place at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships (Champs). Furthermore, Alpha Academy’s Volleyball team recently made their first official debut which earned them two victories against local high schools. Finally, the Alpha Academy Debate Team took home 3 Distinctions and 1 Merit Award at the Kingston & St. Andrew Mass Debate!

We are beyond proud of the standard of excellence that our Mercy students continue to uphold in all of these areas. We are confident that the skills and experiences gained through these endeavours will contribute to them becoming well-rounded men and women of the future!
