In August 2025, the Mercy school community geared up for the new school year by participating in a series of Mercy Mission workshops. The workshops gathered together staff from all schools and departments to reflect on Catherine McAuley’s legacy and mission of the Sisters of Mercy.

The sessions were conducted by Kimberly Baxter (Associate Director, Mercy Education), who guided each group through well-designed activities and reflections. Attendees at each session had the opportunity to watch the “In God Alone” film which movingly depicted the life and work of our Foundress Catherine McAuley. Afterwards, staff broke into small groups to discuss, among other things, how Catherine’s story can inspire this generation of students. With an aim to exemplify Catherine’s knack for honouring and connecting deeply with others, some attendees emphasized the importance of valuing all school staff — from teachers to cleaners — as integral to the institution.

Aside from these discussion segments, opportunities for creative expression were also provided. People wrote and performed poems, created eye-catching pieces of arts, and shared personal experiences and musings – all centered around the concept of living lives of Mercy in our work within the Mercy school community. Several impressive works of art were created by small groups to visually bring to life the Mercy Core Values.

This time of fellowship provides an opportunity for our Mercy staff to recentre themselves and find practical ways of aligning their thoughts and actions with the mission of Mercy in the new school year.
