In June, we received a visit from Bishop Feehan High School. A fellow Mercy school from Massachusetts, U.S.A, the school group came down for a short mission trip to serve the needs of the residents at Mustard Seed Communities. While on the island, students stopped by the Alpha property to witness their fellow Mercy schools in action.

Student leaders from Convent of Mercy Academy, Alpha (aka Alpha Academy) and Alpha Vocational Training Centre (AVTC) gilded the group in a fun, interactive tour of their school campuses. On Alpha Academy’s campus, the young visitors were taken to a range of historic and newly-developed facilities such as the iconic Chrst the King Chapel, Cecelia Hall, and the Library/Resource Centre. Special activities included a Jamaican dance lesson in the school’s dance studio and a spontaneous musical jam session in McAuley Hall during which students from the 3 schools sang Bob Marley’s Reggae classic “One Love” together.

Next, the tour went to the Alpha Institute campus, where visitors got to peek inside the Alpha Service Bureau, look at the trade areas and observe classes in session. They were then led to the Alpha School of Music campus where they were wowed by the cutting edge facilities and equipment on hand.

Throughout it all, students from the three schools interacted and bonded with each other; showing that despite geographic and school lines, we are all part of one united Mercy community.
