As part of the year-long celebration of the 130th anniversary of the Convent of Mercy Academy ‘Alpha’ (a.k.a. Alpha Academy), staff were invited to the school’s Long Service Award Function, on December 3, 2024. The event, which was held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, highlighted the work of staff who have served for five or more years at the school. This includes hard-working staff from all departments, from administration to teaching to ancillary – all have helped to maintain Alpha Academy’s standard of excellence over the past several decades.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Sisters of Mercy of Jamaica along with members of the Mercy Association and the Alpha Academy Alumnae Association. The night’s guest speaker was the lovely Grace Baston – a former Principal and current Board Member of Alpha Academy who shared words of encouragement and appreciation. The audience also enjoyed a musical performance by Mary Isaacs (an Alpha Academy Alumnae) as well as a heartfelt speech by current Principal, Mrs. Kali McMorris. Staff were extremely pleased to be honoured in this way for their years of service; with some being celebrated for putting in over 35 years of hard work!
The evening was filled with fine dining, fellowship and warm expressions of gratitude. We are so thankful for the opportunity to formally recognise the tireless dedication of our Mercy staff during this anniversary season. Here’s to the next 130 years!
