Mercy Foundation Day: A Remembrance

Did you know? December 12 is our Mercy Foundation Day! This is the day in 1831 that Catherine McAuley and her companions, Mary Ann Doyle and Elizabeth Harley, professed vows in Dublin, Ireland to become the very first Sisters of Mercy. Exactly 59 years later, on December 12, the Sisters of Mercy from Bermondsey, London, England, arrived in Jamaica. From there, the Sisters of Mercy of Jamaica was established! You can read more about this historic arrival in the words of our late, great Sister Mary Bernadette Little, RSM below!

An excerpt from “You Did It Unto Me: The Story of ALPHA and the Sisters of Mercy of Jamaica” written by Sister Mary Bernadette Little.
